It feels a lot busier than it is…it’s not even noon, I’ve done really nothing, and I’m exhausted.
The water is out in our zip. I stayed up and out late last night and stopped at a diner for a midnight dinner…”throw some jalapenos on that” was probably not the wisest, and I wouldn’t have suggested it had I known that the water was going to be nil the next day (plumbing). And I would have taken a shower before bed.
The house is a mess. My expected but unexpected Thursday evening house guest was let off the hook for a drop by, but with the invitation left open. Now I’m hoping she doesn’t take me up on it. While I was gone last night, the house was trashed (or did I leave it this way? I forget.) The kids hustled on laundry…sorted, but left in piles all over the living room floor. Unfinished art strewn along living room walls…complete with brushes, paper-plates used for palates, rags and so on. Not sure what the kids created for dinner last night…but the dishes are still there…and the smell of popcorn is still in the air (I can’t stand that smell…it’s kinda gross). It’s not the type of weather to air out the home, either. Our kitchen didn’t get done because of our time stranded on the road overtook the time we were to decorate. Oh, the tune of $700+ to fix the car that we already put $500 into in Feb…yea, not loving it.
Franklin sold some art last night – three pieces in fact. To a retail place in Miami. After the purchase one half of the couple who purchased it mentioned it being displayed in his store…the other half said that they were going to hang it in their home. I regret I didn’t take photos of it before – didn’t occur to me, and Franklin said not to worry about it. He was low-balled for one of the three pieces earlier in the evening, with the guy not understanding the art of dickering…instead of a counter offer he whined and then insulted. Turns out that was the ex-fiance of the woman who arranges to have artists show in that building…and she had mentioned how much she loved that one particular painting…he was trying to schmooze her by purchasing it as a gift…but wouldn’t budge the extra $50 when Franklin was offering a cut/reduced price in the first place. We laughed at the end of the night when we found out the back story (the fiance/schmooze)…so Franklin gave a free landscape sketch to the woman as a sorry-thank you-chuckle sorta thing. I think the fellows behavior was likely the dissolving factor of his engagement with this woman.
I’m encouraging Franklin to ask for the day of the next Art Walk off so that he can show more work. He left the slew behind that I thought he was going to bring…and I think it will sell better at that venue than in a gallery (the stuff he sold last night was true gallery quality). That will allow him to work on his December gallery show rather than working for a street show. Plus, by November, Florida would have cooled all the more. Perhaps if I remind her to bring tennis shoes, my friend Melissa will once again accompany me and she can dance with the street musicians.
OK…gotta go.
